AI for SMEs

Artificial Intelligence for small and medium-sized Enterprises

In January 2024, the EU project "AI for SMEs" was launched. The project supports small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as well as vocational training institutions in integrating artificial intelligence. Through practical training and tailored teaching materials, trainers and employees are prepared for the AI applications of the future. By conducting a comprehensive needs analysis, implementing a train-the-trainer program, and offering specialized further training opportunities, the project enhances the attractiveness of vocational education and strengthens the innovative capacity of European SMEs – fostering greater competitiveness and future viability.

The first meeting of the project consortium took place at the Transfer Center in Cologne. It is led by the OM partner Hanse-Parlament. In addition to the foundation "Mittelstand – Gesellschaft – Verantwortung," the following partners are involved: Vilnius Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Crafts (Lithuania), Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Estonia), Hungarian Association of Craftmen’s Corporations (Hungary), and Poznan Chamber of Crafts (Poland).

In the frame of the project, a study (a survey of over 190 European SMEs) was conducted to examine the current state of AI use in SMEs, including the specific hurdles and requirements. In addition, a concept for the implementation of AI in SMEs has been developed.

A Concept for the Implementation of AI in SMEs +
A Concept for the Implementation of AI in SMEs The concept for implementing AI in business helps SMEs leverage the opportunities of AI to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve decision-making processes across various business areas – from human resources and marketing to supply chain optimization, financial planning, and legal compliance. It first categorizes the current state of AI usage in companies in Estonia, Germany, Lithuania, Poland, and Hungary. Based on the results of quantitative and qualitative company surveys in these countries, the expectations and challenges that SMEs associate with AI are then described. Additionally, the needs of SMEs are highlighted. More information about the concept can be found here.

The project is co-funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ Programme.
