AI for SMEs
Proactive and Productive Implementation of Artificial Intelligence in Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises 09/2020 – 09/2023
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) often lack the necessary resources and expertise to properly assess and leverage the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) for their business. Many companies and their employees struggle to identify valuable AI applications, evaluate them strategically, and integrate them into their operations in a productive and human-centered way.
The en[AI]ble project aims to bridge this gap by offering a specialized AI qualification program tailored to the needs of SMEs. This program is designed to equip business leaders, employees, works councils, and consultants with the skills to realistically assess AI applications and implement them in a way that benefits all stakeholders. By enhancing participants' existing domain knowledge with AI-specific competencies, the program ensures that AI adoption is both effective and sustainable.
The qualification framework is based on qualitative research involving executives, works councils, and representatives from intermediary organizations. The insights from this research have been compiled into a comprehensive publication.
Beyond providing a fundamental understanding of AI technologies and their applications, the program focuses on developing skills for holistic work and organizational design. Recognizing its value, the Strategic Committee of the Offensive Mittelstand—following a recommendation from the AG Transfer—has decided to establish the "AI Qualification Program" from en[AI]ble as an official OM product.
The project has been funded by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS) as part of the INQA initiative and has received expert support from the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA).
